The project site is in the high density, residential-commercial Chinatown district in the urban core of the City and County of San Francisco. The site is occupied by the existing Chinatown YMCA in a historic, three story, 28.200 square foot building that was constructed in 1926. The building contains about 21,850 sq.ft. of community,physical fitness, and recreational space, and about 5,250 sq. ft. of residential use, which includes 31 rooms. The site is within the CRNC (Chinatown Residential Neighborhood Commercial) Zoning District is within a 65-A Height and Bulk District. The Chinatown Land Use and Density Plan Element of the General Plan for San Francisco shows this area as Chinatown Residential Neighborhood Commercial.
Document Description
The proposed project includes three elements: (1) extensive interior renovation of the existing three-story over basement/ground floor, 45-foot-tall, 25,952- square foot (sq ft) building; (2) construction of a new three-story, approximately 39-foot 9-inch tall, 19,356-sq ft east wing addition; and (3) construction of a new four-story approximately 32-foot 4-inch tall, 3,437-sq ft addition to the rear of the existing Chinatown YMCA building fronting Sabin Place.
