Document Description
The site is flat land, subject to periodic winter-spring flooding. It is currently in agricultural use for irrigated pasture grazing and occasional hay production. The project includes minor on-site excavation and grading to replicate natural conditions by creating a mosaic pattern of shallow permanent ponds interspersed with seasonally inundated swales and uplands. This will create approximately equal proportions of aquatic (open-water), emergent marsh, and grassland habitats throughout the area, suitable for a diversity of wetlands-dependent wildlife species, including the State and Federally listed giant garter snake (Thamnopsis gigas).

Notice of Exemption

Exempt Status
Categorical Exemption
Type, Section or Code
class 4, 25
Reasons for Exemption
This project is exempt because it would result in only a minor alteration to the existing condition and would restore part of the property to a more natural condition. Grading of land at a slope less than ten percent to create ponds and swales would occur on part of the property to promote the development of wetlands habitat.
