Present Land Use
Present land uses include residential, commercial, office, light industrial, public land and vacant land. The Artesia General Plan designates the following uses: low density residential, high density residential, service and professional, commercial general, light manufacturing and industrial, heavy manufacturing and industrial and open space and recreation. Corresponding zoning include: R-1, M-R, C-O, C-G, C-T, C-S-P, C-P-D, M-1, M-2 and O-S.
The proposed project is the update of the Artesia Housing Element which was last adopted in June 1989. The purpose of the Housing Element is to provide suitable housing for all residents of Artesia regardless of income, age, race, religion, gender or ethnic background. This Housing Element sets forth the City's five-year strategy to address the community's housing needs. It includes the preservation and enhancement of the community's residential character, the expansion of housing opportunities for all economic segments of the community, and the provision of guidance and direction for local government decision-making in all matters relating to housing.
