Document Description
The project site for the proposed Eichhorn Family House is in the central campus within the Center for Child and Family Studies complex, which is located south of First Street, east of Parking Lot 10, north of the Arboretum, and west of the Aggie Village neighborhood. The Eichhorn Family House would be situated south of the existing Center for Child and Family Studies buildings, immediately north of the Arboretum. The proposed project would include the construction of a one-story, approximately 2,690 gross square foot building designed in a similar style to the Aggie Village homes. The building would house research, teaching, and demonstration programs focused on infant and preschool children in the context of family development. The Center for Child and Family Studies, part of the UC Davis Department of Human and Community Development, serves as a laboratory for the development of experimental programs for children and familities, as an observatin laboratory that complements the child and human development coursework of UC Davis undergraduate and graduate students, and as a research facility for UC Davis faculty and graduate students. Although parents and other family members have always been an essential component of the emphasis at the Center for Child and Family Studies, space limitations have not permitted formal development of family-centered research activities. The proposed project would provide more suitable space for such activities.
