The EIS/EIR will review the environmental impacts of and options to:
1. Provide a new, reconstructed Transbay Terminal, to serve as a multi-modal transit/transportation facility that incorporates the principles of sustainability and environmental responsibility at the site of the current Transbay Terminal at First and Mission Streets in downtown San Francisco,
2. Extend Caltrain commuter rail service from its current San Francisco terminus at 4th and Townsend to a new underground terminus underneath or near the proposed rebuilt Transbay Terminal.
The EIS/EIR will also review establishment of a redevelopment plan and related development projects, including transit-oriented development, on publicly-owned land in the vicinity of the new multi-modal facility. The plan and related development are intended to assist in financing of the transportation improvements.
