The Proposed project site is an existing surface parking lot located on state-owned land in Exposition Park. The South Central Community Plan designates the project site and area within Exposition Park as Open Space. The project has been developed in conformance with the Exposition Park Master Plan (adopted 1993).
Document Description
The State of California and the California Science Center are proposing to construct a new four-level, subterranean parking structure on state owned property in Exposition Park. Exposition Park includes several major museum/educational institution, recreational open space, surface parking lots, and sports facilities of regional significance such as the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum and the Sports Arena. The proposed parking structure would be located on an existing surface parking lot west of Figueroa Street and immediately North of Coliseum Drive. The Parking Structure would be located below ground in what is now an asphalt parking lot. The immediate area around the proposed structure would slope down to the lower parking levels, allowing the walls of the structure to remain open to the air. New educational gardens would be provided in the sloped areas immediately west and north of the parking structure resulting in a net increase in landscaped open space in the park.
