Document Description
The current General Plan for Brentwood adopted in 1993 calls for a build-out population of 90,000 to 95,000. Build-out refers to the unknown future time when the entire Brentwood Plan Area is completely developed in accordance with the land use designations. The Brentwood General Plan covers a 30-square-mile Planning Area, which includes the City of Brentwood and nearby lands in the County. The City has grown rapidly in recent years. In 1995, Brentwood was the fastest growing City by percentage in the State. In 1998-99 the City decided to update the 1993 General Plan. The major goal for the General Plan Update is to reduce residential growth, increase job generating land uses, and create a plan that will preserve and enhance the quality of life for Brentwood's citizens while providing for future growth and development for jobs, housing, public facilities, and community resources. Some of the important issues identified include growth management, neighborhoods, circulation and traffic congestion, preservation and enhancement of the downtown area, and stimulating economic development to three existing elements that are important to Brentwood's future: * Land Use * Circulation * Growth Management
