Document Description
The project involves the reconstruction of the J&L Ranch crossing of the San Benito River and the restoration of the river channel. The bridge project includes the placement of piles and concrete structures, rip rap and grading for the bridge abutments and road crossing. The bridge will be 16 feet wide and have a minimum 46-foot free span with 20-foot approaches. This fill will have a maximum height of 16 feet. There would be approximately 3,850 cubic yards of cut and 3,100 cubic yards of fill involved in the construction of the bridge. The bridge placement and grading is proposed to provide a clear low flow channel width of 46 feet with side culverts at higher elevations to increase the flow capacity. This will allow the bridge to have a free board of three feet during a 100 year storm event. During bridge construction, silt fences wil be installed to prevent fines from washing into the river. Channel restoration will consist of: 1) removal of the channel blockages; 2) the creation of an overflow channel; 3) the placement of bank stabilization material (rip rap) on the outside bank in the curve area; and 4) the planting of native riparian species, such as cottonwoods and willows, along banks and on unvegetated open areas outside the channel. Approximately 3,500 cubic yards of material will be moved as part of the restoration activities.
