Document Description
The existing bridge over the creek is a two span steel and concrete composite structure, approximately 100 feet in length and 30 feet wide. The bridge is rated by Caltrans as substandard in bridge width and structurally deficient due to undermining and cracking of the center bridge pier by heavy scouring during past winter storms. A new reinforced concrete bridge 129 feet in length by 40 feet wide is proposed to be constructed using precast prestressed reinforced concrete I-beams for the new bridge deck. The existing bridge deck and center pier are to be completely demolished and removed while the tops of the existing bridge abutments will be lowered in elevation but will remain in place. The new bridge will be a single span structure with the new bridge abutments constructed outside the existing abutments upon cast-in-drilled-hole piles. Approximately 686 linear feet of the existing approach roads will be reconstructed as part of this bridge project; 328 feet of the westerly approach road and 358 feet of the easterly. The easterly approach roadway has been specifically engineered to avoid encroachment on an historical rock wall on the north westerly side of the Amesti Road intersection.
