Document Description
Acquisition of property, demolition of existing structures, relocation of existing residents, vacation of a street segment, relocation of utilities both on-site and off-site, and the construction of operation of a public elementary school. The proposed Adams/Franklin Area Elementary School would accommodate a planned enrollment of approximately 700-900 students, kindergarten through grade five. The school would principally serve a portion of the students residing in the Cherokee Park and adjacent neighborhood areas in the Normal Heights community. Faculty would consist of approximately fifty-two (52) full-time employees. Approximately seventy (70) off-street parking spaces would be provided on-site. The project would also include playground facilities and joint-use turf fields that would be available to the public after school hours. The school site could be developed with other capatible youth and neighborhood resident-serving facilities on-site or adjacent to the site. The proposed elementary school would serve to relieve the enrollment at existing schools, including Adams elementary school, which is described as "seriously overcrowded" in the Mid-City Communities Plan (August 1998), and Franklin elementary school.
