Variance issuance to State Water Resourses Control Board, Division of Water Quality, U.S. Forest Service, Federal Bureau of Land Management, and U.S. EPA from hazardous waste facility permit, volume limits, transportation, and manifesting requirements. The variance is limited to a short term pilot collection in remote areas of the three counties during August 8 through September 30, 2000. The collections provide appropriate means of disposing of hazadous material co-generated from recreational gold mining/dredging operations in the Sierra Nevada.

1. The collection will be conducted by federal and state staff, trained in the specific hazardous material management procedures and all activities will be carefully regulated by variance conditions to assure against any environmental concerns. 2. The limited term of operation and transportation ot wastes to a EPA contractor for shipment to a recycler limit the potential for any risk of upset of accident. 3. Experienced management staff will be conducting the collection and are qualified and prepared to respond to any unforseeable upset or waste managment incident.
