Document Description
The Panoche Drainage District (Lead Agency for CEQA), in cooperation with the San Luis & Delta Mendota Water Authority, proposes to acauire up to 6,200 acres of agricultural land for the treatment of agricultural subsurface drainwater. The District proposes to plant salt tolerant crops and irrigate them with the drain water in order to reduce the volume of drainwater that is discharged to the Grassland Bypass Channel, and subsequently to the San Luis Drain and Mud Slough, from the 97,400-acre Grassland Drainage Area. The proposed Project is Phase 1 of the San Juaquin River Water Quality Improvement Project. Up to 25, 000 acer-feet of drainwater may be applied on the 6, 200-acre Project site to irrigate existing and proposed salt tolerant crops.
