Document Description
The proposed action would establish management direction for the 400,000 acre Carson Ranger District to 1) improve public access, 2) enhance recreation opportunities and reduce user conflicts, 3) protect scenery along scenic corridors and as a backdrop for the areas communities, 4) preserve wilderness character, 5) protect watersheds, 6) enhance ecosystem integrity and biodiversity, 7) improve the landownership pattern, 8) protect and interpret heritage resources, 9) manage American Indian religious and cultural uses in a government-to-government relationship with tribes, 10) manage livestock grazing to ensure long term sustainability, 11) manage mining to protect scenic and other resources, and12) provide for development of special use facilities compatible with scenic integrity and other resource objectives. The proposed action would also establish wilderness management direction for about 100,000 acres of the Stanislaus National Forest and Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit within the Carson-Iceberg and Mount Rose Wilderness Areas.
