Document Description
The proposed project consists of the widening of a 14.5-kilometer (9.9-mile) segment of U.S. 101 from the Bernal Road/Silicon Valley Boulevard interchange in San Jose to the Cochrane Road interchange in Morgan Hill. The objective of the proposed project is to provide congestion and safety improvements to an important component of Santa Clara County's transportation infrastructure for the purpose of meeting existing and forecasted travel demand in the U.S. 101 Corridor. The need for the project stems from the substantial economic and residential growth in the project corridor resulting in highly impaired traffic operating conditions. Santa Clara County, often referred to as Silicon Valley, contains many of the nation's high-tech companies. The growth of that industry has resulted in substantial increases in jobs and population in the County with similar growth trends projected to continue.
