Fifth street is designated as a two-lane major highway and extends east-west from the City of San Bernardino on the west through the City of Highland, becoming Greenspot Road east of Church Street and continuing to the eastern city limits and into the County unincorporated lands, and eventually the City of Redlands, south of the Santa Ana River. The existing bridge over City Creek is a two-lane facility which is 9.8 meters (32 feet) wide. The project area is composed of predominately commercial and industrial land uses adjacent to Fifth Street with residential neighborhood to the north. Commercial and industrial uses are located adjacent to Fifth Street. The large planned development of East Highlands Ranch, consisting of both residential and commercial uses, lies 3.2 kilometers (2.0 miles) east of the project area.
Document Description
The proposed project consists of the demolition of the existing two-lane City Creek Bridge ( #54C0016) and construction of a four-lane bridge 26.8 meters (88 feet) wide curb to curb and 30.5 meters (100 feet) wide railing to railing. The project also includes completing street improvements to Fifth Street between SR-30 and Palm Avenue, including new curb, gutter, sidewalk and future installation of a traffic signal at the intersection of Fifth Street and Church Avenue. Fifth Street will be widened to 26.8 meters (88 feet) from Church Avenue to the ramps on the west side of SR-30, from Church Avenue east to Palm Avenue, Fifth Street will be widened to 24.4 meters (80 feet). The project length is approximately 0.64 kilometer (0.4 mile)
