The farm property contains several historically significant buildings, including the Faulkner house, which has been designated as Ventura County Landmark No. 1 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Agricultural production that has recently occurred on the farm has been limited, consisting primarily of approximately four acres of lemon trees and the seasonal production of pumpkins. The property has also been used to grow Christmas trees, however, the trees were recently removed. Recently, the property was leased to a farmer and is being used to grow row crops. Another activity that is conducted on the farm is the annual pumpkin patch, which is conducted during October and is open to the public. One of the major objectives of the proposed project will be to develop the HALC while preserving the historical integrity of the project site. New buildings that are proposed to be developed as part of the HALC project include an educational center (20,000 square feet), an agricultural research center (4,200 square feet), and a maintenance and farm support building (1,000 square feet). Outdoor areas for seasonal and other programs and events (7.6 acres) would also be included in the project, along with areas for agricultural demonstration projects (13.8 acres) and parking (159 spaces).
