Document Description
The District provides both water and sewer services to the town of Burney. The District currently has 1,681 water connections and 1,670 sewer conections. In 1998, the Average Day Demand (ADD) for water was 1.06 million gallons per day (MGD). The northern area of the community of Burney currently does not meet minimum Shasta County Fire Standards posing a health and safety hazard for existing commercial and industrial users. In November 1998, Burney had an unemployment rate of 10.9 percent (170 persons), which illustrates the need for employment opportunities in the area. In order to meet these needs, commercial and industrial lands need to be available for development, however, without adequate fire flows, the inventory of available lands is nonexistent. Recognizing the health, safety and employment needs in the area, the District has obtained an Economic Development Administration Public Works and Development Facilities Financial Assistance Grant to assist in improving fire flows and in providing opportunities for future industrial and commercial development.
