Document Description
The operator proposes to alter the streambed to repair existing gabions (rock-filled wire baskets) damaged during the 1998 El Nino storms. A small skiploader and a backhoe will be used for the gabion repairs. Two willows will likely be removed. All other vegetation will either be trimmed or flattened to minimize impacts to vegetation. The project will temporarily impact 288 square feet of streambed with native riparian vegetation. Impacts will include a 12 foot by 12 foot area of streambed with cattails where the operator gain access across the stream. In addition, the operator will impact another 12 foot by 12 foot area where the operator will gain access to the damaged gabion baskets. The operator will dismantle, by hand, the damaged sections of the gabion baskets. The footing will be dug deeper, to prevent future storm flows from undermining the gabions. Water diversion are not anticipated to be needed for the project.
