Document Description
On California State Highway 1 below Salsipuedes Bridge, a cascade structure at the base of a concrete apron forms an impediment to fish migration during low flows. The project will modify this structure, using rebar and concrete to create a small pool midway up the cascade, thus redirecting low-volume flows toward the pool to form a migration path for steelhead/rainbow trout. The project has been modified to construct concrete structures instead of securing river rocks to the concrete apron, and to lower portions of the existing structure to enhance depth of flow through reconfigured low-flow pathway. These modifications to the existing structure will allow fish to migrate over the impediment during low-flow conditions and thus benefit from greater access to spawning grounds and improved habitat upstream.
