Document Description
In 2001, the City of Costa Mesa certified Environmental Impact Report #1047 for the South Coast Plaza Town Center project (Town Center EIR). The Town Center EIR analyzed the potential environmental impacts of a net addition of 1,109,445 square feet of retail, office, hotel, and cultural arts related uses, Including 140,000 square feet of art museum/academy space, on 54 acres within the North Costa Mesa Specific Plan. The Applicant, the Orange County Museum of Art (OCMA), Is proposing to reduce the square footage of the art museum/academy space from 140,000 square feet to approximately 66,750 square feet (proposed project). The proposed project \WI.lid be built on a 1.7 acre site (the OCMA site) at the southwest corner of Town Center Drive and Avenue of the Arts (Building E In the Town Center EIR). The OCMA site is undeveloped and Is currently used as a gathering space for events related to the Segerstrom Center for the Arts. The proposed project would also reduce the museum's maximum building height from 80 to 75 feet and Include a drop off-area for school buses on the museum's eastern side. In addition, the previously approved
grading plan, site plan, and landscaping for the OCMA site will be changed to reflect the proposed project, and the address of the OCMA site would be revised from 655 Town Center Drive to 3333 Avenue of the Arts. No modification to any of the other elements In the South Coast Plaza TO'M'l center project are proposed.
