Document Description
The proposed project entails the construction of a 139,560 gross square feet biomedical research building on a 0.5 acre site within the UCSD School of Medicine (SOM). The project site is located south of Gilman Drive, east of Library Walk and northwest of the Basic Sciences building. The new building will be four stories above grade with the a basement level. Mechanical equipment will be located on the roof. The building will include a mixture of research labs/support space, a vivarium, and administrative space. Four major research programs will be housed in the new research facility: neurosciences program; reproductive medicine; environmental health program; and genetics. In addition, the project also includes development of the SOM Quad, a landscaped green spce south of the building site on land that is currently used for parking.
