Document Description
The proposed project will involve removal of an existing 48-inch diameter sump culvert, installation of a 24-inch diameter standpipe in the same location, and trenching and backfilling a communication trench from the standpipe to the bed of the streambed. The communication trench will hold a 2-inch diameter pipe containing probes for temperature and turbidity. The pipe will emerge from the streambank and extend approximately one-third of the way across the channel to the thalweg. Culvert sump removal, erection of the standpipe, and excavation and backfilling of the communication trench will be performed using a rubber tired backhoe from the streambank. Approximately 6 cubic yards of material will be excavated and backfilled. No equipment will enter the wetted portion of the stream. Disturbance of the water column and associated turbidity will be kept to a minimum. All work will be conducted during daylight hours within either June or July 2000. No removal of native shrubs or trees will occur. However, some pruning of one alder and one willow may occur.
