Document Description
The proposed project consists of temporary discharge, on an urgent basis, of tertiary-treated effluent from the Sierra Conservation Center (SCC) State Prison near Jamestown. The proposed project would truck the tertiary-treated effluent from the prison for disposal into Woods Creek in the County of Tuolumne. Discharge would take place via a temporary 12-inch pipe from the truck to the stream. The location of the proposed discharge would be at the Sierra Rock Quarry, a commercial gravel operation on Woods Creek. The site is highly disturbed due to the gravel operation, and the proposed project would not affect any sensitive biological resources. The amount of effluent for disposal will vary depending on the amount and duration of rainfall, and how full the existing storage at the prison is at the time. The proposed project is needed because the institution requires an interim solution pending the design and construction of the SCC Jamestown Effluent Disposal Pipeline Project. The Pipeline Project is intended as the permanent solution for effluent disposal, and estimated construction completion date is 2004.
