Document Description
This project, to be carried out by the city of Williams in cooperation with volunteers, involves the planting of 66 trees in various locations within the park. City staff, CDF conservation camp crews and volunteers will plant the trees. City personnel will perform the needed tree care. The trees proposed for this project are non-native ornamentals, selected for their adaptability to local environmental conditions, disease resistance, appropriateness to the planting site, shade capacity, lack of significance nuisance potential, etc. Fifteen-gallon planting stock will be used. Trees will be planted, staked and tied, watered and maintained in accordance with the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection's tree planting guidelines. Grant funding will also be used to conduct a program to educate the public about the importance of urban trees and their need for long-term and appropriate maintenance. It is anticipated that this project will commence April 2000, and be completed by December 2001.

As lead agency under CEQA, the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection finds that this project is Categorically Exempt. This project involves minor alterations to land and vegetation including the planting of new landscaping trees. As this is a heavily disturbed urban enviroment there is a low likelihood of impacting any significant biological resources. CDF's archaeological staff have reviewed this project and determined that there are no cultural or historic resources present in the project vicinity. CDF's finds that the proposed activities will pose a less than significant impact to the environment including cultural, historic and biological resources.
