Document Description
This project, to be carried out by the City of Mount Shasta and volunteers, involves conducting an a tree inventory of more than 400 young trees in various locations throughout the City, to evaluate their health and need for maintenance, e.g. stake removal, tree-tie adjustment, irrigation, pruning, weeding, fertilization, etc. These trees were planted with funding provided by various urban tree-planting grants. Grant funding will also be used to conduct a program to educate the public about the importance of urban trees and their need for long-term and appropriate maintenance. It is anticipated that this project will commence April 2000, and be completed by December 2000. All maintenance practices will be performed in compliance with current arboricultural standards as required by the California DEpartment of Forestry and Fire Protection.

Reasons for Exemption
As lead agency under CEQA, the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection finds that this project is Categrically Exempt. This project involves minor alteration to land and vegetation including the planting of new landscaping trees. As this is a heavily disturbed urban environment there is a low likelihood of impacting any significant biological resources. CDF's archeaological staff have reviewed this project and determined that ther are no historic resources present in the project vicinity. CDF's finds that the proposed activities will pose a less than significant impact to the environment including cultural, historic and biological resources.
