Document Description
The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CDF) proposes to acquire a new site of approximately 12 acres, suitable for the construction of a new Ukiah Air Attack Base in Mendocino County. The current Ukiah Air Attack Base site lies within the Ukiah Municipal Airport. The proposed relocation site would serve a similar function and have similar facilities as the existing UAAB, but would include more space to allow for a needed expansion and upgrade of facilities. The base normally reloads up to eight air tankers of mixed types assigned to single or multiple fire fighting incidents. Overnight parking of four or more aircraft is not uncommon. Maximum efforts for multiple large fire operations have resulted in single-day output exceeding 80,000 gallons of fire retardant involving more than 50 air tanker trips. UAAB is the primary air attack facility in the world.
