Document Description
The California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) has executed Streambed Alteration Agreement ([EPIMS-SBA-26067-R5]), pursuant to Fish and Game Code section 1602, to the project Applicant, The City of Santa Maria represented by Heriberto Cantu. The project is the continuation of sand and gravel mining operations in Santa Maria River. Sand and gravel material is skimmed from the Santa Maria River on an annual basis, stockpiled on the adjacent landfill property, and used as cover for the landfill to prevent trash from blowing into the river and for health and safety compliance. Sand and gravel mining will take place in alternating areas consisting of approximately 31 to 34 acres each year. The mining area will be skimmed no more than four feet deep or will come no more than within four feet of the water table. If groundwater is encountered mining activities will stop in that area. Mining activities will take place when the river is dry and occur between July 16th through October 31st with a possible extension to December 1st if no rain is forecasted
