Document Description
The proposed project is the construction of a 2-story, 4,732 assignable square foot (asf) building for the Center for Adaptive Optics in the central UCSC campus. The proposed 1.6-acre construction site is located immediately south of the Natural Sciences 2 building and west of the Earth and Marine Sciences building; the construction site includes the building site (.6 acres), staging and access areas, and the site of a proposed improved detention basin. The building site occupies the northern third of the construction site. The site is designated Campus Core in the UCSC Long Range Development Plan (LRDP). The site is disturbed and urbanized(surrouded on 3 sides by large academic buildings) but is not developed. The area is underlain by utility lines and has historically been used as a staging area for the construction of nearby projects. In addition, the area has been subject to heavy pedestrian use.
