Document Description
The proposed project at the California Medical Facility (CMF) would modify the existing ventilation system to increase the number of air exchanges per hour in the existing U Wing, V Wing , and Main visitor Room. The project would include replacing the existing basement exhaust fan for each wing and add ductwork to exchange exhaust air away from makeup air units and operable windows in the U and V Wings. The project would repair and rebalance existing exhaust fans and seal basement openings. A new roof mounted air handling unit would be installed at each day room in the U and V Wings, and supply ducts would be enclosed by new plywood-backed gyp board soffits constructed between existing beams. Improvements to the Main Visitor Room would install a new roof mounted air-handling unit. The project is needed because of the high number of HIV infected inmates at CMF who are susceptible to contracting (and transmitting) tuberculosis (TB). The project would increase the ventilation and reduce the possibility of spreading TB. The project would accommodate the existing population and involves no expansion of existing use.
