Document Description
The University of California, Los Angeles proposes to construct a five-story laboratory facility (Luck Research Center), approximately 95,000 gross square feet (gsf) on a site east of the Life Sciences Building. The facility would require demolition of a portion of the Life Sciences Building (LSB) which houses instructional space. The project would also include construction of a smaller instruction facility, approximately 12,500 gsf to replace instructional space that would be demolished in the LSB. The Replacement Instructional Facility would be constructed upon a foundation that would incorporate a thermal energy storage tank (TES). The TES is proposed to provide additional chilled water to meet the overall campus' peak cooling demand. In order to achieve efficencies of design and construction, the Luck Research Center would be constructed together with the proposed Health Sciences Seismic Replacement Building #2 (HSSRB#2), which was previously analyzed within the Final EIR for the Academic Health Center Facilities Reconstruction Plan (AHCFRP- SCH#97061016).
