Document Description
The proposed project consists of a series of actions involving the District's ferry operations. The M.V. Golden Gate, the vessel currently being used in the District's San Francisco to Sausalito service, is proposed to be retired from daily service. To replace the M.V. Golden Gate, the District proposes to reassign one of its three Spaulding 165 class monohull vessels, which are currently used in its Larkspur service, to the Sausalito - San Francisco route. The assignment of a Spaulding vessel to the San Francisco - Sausalito route will not trigger an increase or substantive change in service at Sausalito. Finally, the District proposes to purchase a new ferry vessel, a high-speed catamaran (twin hull vessel), which it proposes to purchase a new ferry vessel on the San Francisco (Ferry Building) - Larkspur ferry route. Introduction in service of the new vessel between San Francisco and Larkspur will result in the adjustment of the Larkspur ferry schedule and will coincide with the full implementation of the forty-two (42) weekday crossings approved in 1996. (The environmental effects of that level of service were assessed in the Initial Study/Enviromental Assessment (IS/EA) entitled "Larkspur Ferry Acquisition," prepared by Brady and Associates, Inc. in June 1995 and were the subject of a Negative Declaration adopted by the District's Board of Directors on January 26, 1996.) The project does not propose any alteration of the landside facilities at larkspur, Sausalito or san Francisco.
