Document Description
Due to years of deferred maintenance, flood damage and other factors, the bike trail within the American River Parkway is in need of a pavement overlay and other repairs. The goal of the overlay project is to have the trail conform to a uniform standard width of 12 feet of asphalt with a 4-foot wide decomposed granite shoulder on each side, where applicable. Along most of the trail, widening will be accomplished by placing an additional 2-foot wide strip of gravel and asphalt to either side of the existing trail, then adding new 4-foot decomposed granite shoulders to the sides, where applicable. Two sections of the bike trail will be rerouted, south and west of Cal Expo. The majority of the reroutes will follow existing service roads, and will involve the placement of gravel road base (where needed) and asphalt paving. The reroutes will follow the standard of 12 feet of asphalt and 4-foot decomposed granite shoulders.
