Document Description
The Department of Justice (DOJ) proposes to replace and relocate the Santa Barbara forensic laboratory facility in the County of Santa Barbara near the Santa Barbara airport. The proposed facility would remain on the City of Santa Barbara municipal airport property and would replace the existing forensic laboratory nearby. The City of Santa Barbara would provide a long-term lease on the DOJ for the proposed site. The facility would be located in a light industrial area near, the main thoroughfare of Hollister Avenue. The proposed project is necessary to provide a safer, less crowded and more efficient working environment. The existing facility is overcrowded. The proposed structure would be approximately 13,804 gross square feet. The building would be a single story structure and would house a staff of approximately 8. It would have 12 secured parking spaces for employees and State vehicles. A wrought-iron security fence approximately 6 feet high would enclose the secured vehicle area. There would be a visitor parking area with 4 spaces. The proposed project would replace the existing facility that is no longer sufficient to accommodate necessary personnel and emergency equipment.
