Document Description
THE PROPOSED PROJECT AT THE RICHARD J. DONOVAN CORRECTIONAL FACILITY WOULD CONSTRUCT A REVERSE OSMOSIS WATER PURIFICATION PLANT TO FILTER WASTE WATER FROM THE INSTITUTION'S LAUNDRY, TEXTILE MILL, AND CENTRAL ENERGY PLANT. CURRENTLY THE INSTITUTION HAS A TOTAL AVERAGE WATER USAGE OF 22,000,000 GALLONS OF WATER PER MONTH. OF THIS AMOUNT APPROXIMATELY 14,000,000 GALLONS IS WASTE WATER FROM THE LAUNDRY, TEXTILE MILL, AND CENTRAL ENERGY PLANT. THE INSTITUTION DUMPS THIS WATER INTO THE SEWER/DRAIN SYSTEM AND IS SUBJECT TO A SEWER SERVICE CHARGE. THIS PROJECT WOULD CONSTRUCT A REVERSE OSMOSIS FILTERATION SYSTEM ON SITE WHICH WILL TREAT THIS WASTE WATER AND RECIRCULATE IT FOR REUSE IN THE LAUNDRY. THE REVERSE OSMOSIS SYSTEM WOULD CONSIST OF A SAND FILTER, TWO 5 MICRON PRE-FILTERS, TWO 30 GALLON PER MINUTE REVERSE OSMOSIS MACHINES, DUTY AND STANDBY FEED PUMPS, AND A MEMBRANE CLEANING SYSTEM. THE REVERSE OSMOSIS PLANT WOULD BE CONSTRUCTED ON THE NORTH SIDE OF CENTRAL ENERGY PLANT BETWEEN THE ENERGY PLANT AND FENCE. THE PROJECT WOULD ALSO INCLUDE CONSTRUCTION OF STEEL STRUCTURES OVER THE REVERSE OSMOSIS EQUIPMENT FOR WEATHER PROTECTION OF THE EQUIPMENT, AND INSTALL PIPING SYSTEMS TO INTERCEPT THE WASTEWATER FOR DELIVERY INTO THE REVERSE OSMOSIS PLANT AND FOR DELIVERY OF TREATED WATER BACK TO THE LAUNDRY FOR USE.
