The project is the result of the Proposition X state modernization and new construction program. In October 1998 the voters approved a bond for new construction and modernization of several facilities throughout the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District boundaries. The District identified new construction needs in two areas at Malibu High School; physical education/athletic facilities and classrooms. The Malibu-High School new construction includes the following improvements: new spectator gymnasium; new classroom building; upgraded track and field facility; and a relocated faculty parking lot. Also included in this project description is conversion of the existing cafetorium into an auditorium; and various minor exterior impovements, as well as interior modernization improvements.
