Document Description
The location for the proposed waste tire cleanup was the County of Sacramento solid waste disposal site in the late 1950's and 1960's. It is not known when or who placed the estimated 125,000 waste tires on site. Enviornmental concerns regarding illegal waste tires are 1) waste tire harbor vectors such as rats and mosquitoes. 2) If the tires caught on fire they would be very difficult to extinguish and the resulting runoff and smoke would pose a significant threat to the public health and safety and the enviornment. The California Intergrated Waste and Management Board remediation contractor will bring equipment on site to shred the tires and then truck the shreds to the B&J Landfill in Solano County, off of highway 133. The cleanup is expected to take three weeks.
