Document Description
Applicant proposes to continue to divert water to storage primarily for use in snowmaking at the Boreal Ski Area (Boreal). The reservoir and place of use are on private land owned by Auburn Ski Club and leased to Boreal. Storage would be behind an existing dam (constructed by Caltrans in the 1950's or early 1960's) adjacent to Interstate 80 at Boreal. Water would be stored in spring and early summer, used primarily in the fall and early winter for snowmaking, and the reservoir would be drained later in winter. This operation has been ongoing for many years. No new construction is planned. The reservoir has a nominal capacity of 30 acre-feet, but siltation may have reduced its capacity to an estimated 15 acre-feet.
