The preferred project site consists of approximately 7.5 acres of land which is currently developed with two churches in the southern portion of the site and single-family and multi-family residential uses. Land uses to the north, west, and east of the site consist of single-family and multi-family residential development. SR-94 is adjacent to the southern site boundary. The General Plan designations for the site are: Medium (R-1500 and R-2500, 17-29 dus/ac) and medium-high (R-1000 and R-1250, 35-44 dus/ac) density residential and the site is zoned medium (GH-1500, 29 dus/ac maximum) and medium-high (GH-1000, 44 dus/ac maximum) density residential.
Document Description
Development of the proposed project would involve the acquisition of property, demolition and/or removal of existing churches and residences, relocation of the existing residents, closure of a portion of three street segments, and the construction and operation of a public elementary school. The proposed Brooklyn/Kimbrough Area Elementary School would accommodate a planned enrollment of 700-900 students, kindergarten through grade five and associated faculty and employees. The school will consist of approximately 56,000-72,000 square feet of floor area, in one or several two-story structures. Approximately 70 off-street parking spaces will be provided at the site. The project also includes playground facilities and joint-use turf fields that will be available to the public after school hours. Specific site plans for the elementary school will not be prepared until after the District completes environmental review and site acquisition.
