Document Description
The proposed project would remove approximately 1100 ward cell lighting fixtures and replace them with high security correctional lighting fixtures. The existing fixtures are 19-year old office type fluorescent lighting fixtures. The proposed project would replace them with detention maximum security lighting units using 40 watt biax fluorescent lamps providing not less than 50-foot candles of illumination at desk level, and 2-foot candles night lighting pursuant to the California Building Code 460A3.2. The wiring to each light fixture would also be replaced. The project is needed because the existing lighting fixtures in the ward rooms are obsolete and unsafe. The fixtures are frequently vandalized by the wards, creating poor lighting conditions, potential for electric shock, and security problems for the institution. The project would accommodate the existing population with no expansion of existing use.
