Document Description
Severel beaver dams have been established in the Mormon island Dam drain within the Reserve. The impounded water has created a 2.65 acre emergent wetland adjacent to Green Valley Road, creating the potential for flooding of the road during significant wet weather events. The project as implemented will: enhance the existing emergent wetlands for diverse wildlife communities, ensure no net loss of wetland area and function, improve wetlands management, and reduce the potential for flooding and damaging Green Valley Road adjacent the wetlands. The action will: create additional emergent wetlands habitat, install a plug in the Mormon Island Dam drain with water conrol structure to replace one of the existing beaver dams, install an additional berm to prevent back flooding, construct temporary access and staging areas, revegetate disturbed upland areas caused by the construction, and monitor results of the wetlands development.
