Document Description
Foundation test drilling to gather information relevant to the design of the forthcoming seismic retrofit project. A total of four 3-inch diameter rotary wash borings will be drilled though the structure and into bedrock. Two borings will be drilled through the bridge deck with a truck mounted drill rig and through the foundations of the upper bent footings. (footings 1,2,3,4,5,6&11 per as-built plans) to a depth of approximately 50 feet. Each boring will take 3 days. Temporary traffic control and lane closure will be necessary. The remaining two borings will be drilled through the lower pier footings (piers 1 & 2 per as-built plans) to an estimated depth of 100 feet. Each boring at the lower pier footings will take 4 to 7 days to complete. A portable drill rig will be lowered from the bridge deck by crane. Traffic control will be required during use of the crane. All cuttings and fluids (water) will be contained and disposed of off-site.
