Document Description
The proposed restoration project consists of the excavation, fill removal, grading, recontouring, and revegetation of an approximately 23-acre area near the mouth of the Upper Truckee River for the purpose of returning the area to a functioning wetland and floodplain that is analogous in topography, hydrology, and wetland habitat values to the exisiting wetlands immediately east of the Upper Truckee River. Other objectives of the project are to create and enhance wildlife habitat, and to create variety of wetland plant communities including upland, willow-wet meadow, transitional meadow, wiregrass wetland, lagoon, and other similar habitat types. The project also includes the re-establishment of the existing public access to Lake Tahoe along the westerly side of the project area, repair of local roadways used for soil transport, and the possible limited use of local borrow pits for disposal of excavated soils.
