Document Description
The Lower West Side Wetland Restoration Project plans for restoring a 23-acre Conservancy-owned site to more natural conditions that will contribute to improving the water quality of Lake Tahoe. The proposed project would provide long-term water quality benefits by reducing sediment and nutrient loads of Lake Tahoe. Project objectives include restoring natural floodplain geomorphic processes, the naturally-functioning wetland system, and as a much wetland habitat as feasible; improving water quality, maintaining public access opportunities at current levels, removing excess artificial fill, but retain some for possible future use, maintain compatibility with adjacent land uses, create an attractive appearance, and protect sensitive, threatened, or endangered species. The proposed project includes excavation, removal, and relocation of approximately 75,000 to 80,000 cubic yards of artificial fill. Approximately 11.0 acres of wetlands would be restored.
