Document Description
The San Luis and Delta Mendota Water Authority (Lead Agency for CEQA), in cooperation with the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation, propose to continue the Grassland Bypass Project through 2009. The purpose of the new Project is to 1) continue separation of unusable agricultural drainwater that is discharged from the Grassland Drainage Area from wetland water supply conveyance channels for the period 2001 through 2009, and 2) facilitate drainage management that maintains the viability of agriculture in the Project Area and promote continuous improvement in water quality in the San Joaquin River. Unusable agricultural drain water from about 98,500 acres of prime farmland would be separated from the wetland water supply channels and conveyed to the San Joaquin River. The volume and concentration of this discharge would be progressively reduced to meet water quality objectives and compliance schedules in the river.
