Document Description
The proposed project would consolidate the institution's gas piping system, replace the water valve system, and replace the existing heaters in 39 of the 86 employee residences at San Quentin State Prison to accommodate existing use. The project is needed because the existing gas piping system has five gas services with different rates. Consolidating the gas system so that all the gas would pass through one meter would result in a tremendous cost savings to the State. The water valve system is over forty years old and the main water valves have deteriorated. In addition, the existing heaters in 39 of the employee residences located within the grounds of the institution are a fire and a safety hazard. The project would install a new water valve system to replace the five existing main water valves. One of the old water valves to be removed bears a manufacturer's stamp and will be preserved by the institution as an example to illustrate water delivery systems of this period.
