Document Description
McNab Creek, a tributary to the Russian River, is a second order stream. The project reach on McNab Creek begins at the confluence with the Russian River and extends upstream approximately 30,973 feet. This reach of McNab Creek is owned by several private landowners. In the summer of 1997 a habitat invventory was conducted by the AmeriCorps Watershed Stewards Project. According to the habitat inventory, pools comprised 28% of the total length of the survey. The pools were relatively deep with 80% having a depth of two feet or greater. However, the mean shelter value rating for pools was 40. The department of Fish and Game targets a shelter value rating of 100. Recommendations from the inventory for McNab Creek include: 1) increase the frequency of pools; 2) increase the complexity of pools by adding complex structures; 3) increase the canopy by planting native trees; and 4) treat sources of upslope and in-channel erosin.
