Document Description
This project will entail the rehabilitation of the severely rutted and eroded hill climb known as Middle Wall. Middle Wall is located approximately 200 yards west of Gold Hill Road in the center of the Open Use Zone within Hungry Valley SVRA. Middle Wall has been a popular hill climbing site for motorcycles since the 1960's. The slope measures from 45-55%. Middle Wall is a north-south running isolated ridge, approximately 3/8's of a mile long and 150 feet high from base to ridge. Middle Wall is riddled with deeply eroded verticle gullies running down both sides of the ridge. Gullies at the top of the hill climb routes are often 6 to 9 feet deep. Much of the site is now unusable for OHV recreation due to the severe gullies. The site has been identified as a major point source of sediment transport in a study conducted by DWR for the OHMVR Division in 1990. The loss of vegetative cover and deep gullying on the slopes of Middle Wall exceed OHV Use Area Soil Conservation Standards.
