Document Description
San Francisco International Airport proposes to reconfigure its runways to address three issues at the airport: (1) aircraft noise impacts on surrounding communities; (2) aircraft delays during poor weather conditions due to inadequate separation between existing runways; and (3) anticipated operation of new large aircraft that require greater separation between runways due to wider wingspans. The airport has evaluated a large number of alternative runway configurations and determined that there are configurations capable of addressing all three objectives of the airport. Some alternatives would require expansion into San Francisco Bay.
