Document Description
The proposed action is the realignment and modernization of the Tecate port of entry located on the United States Border in Tecate, California. The project would realign commercial and private vehicle traffic entering the United States and separate pedestrain traffic. Inspection activity currently taking place on the southbound shoulder of SR-188 would be accommodated within the new port of entry boudaries. An addition to the historic main building would be constructed to allow for more administrative space for United States Customs Service, Immigration and Naturalization agents, the United Stated Department of Agriculture and other agencies as needed. The addition has been approved through a memorandum of agreement with the State Historic Preservation Office. The water supply system and storm water facilities would be upgraded. The project originally proposed an increase in inspection bays. Due to public comments and federal legislation, the current number of regularly utilized inspection bays, two (2), would be increased by one to facilitate safety inspections. This is a reduction of the currently available inspection bays from four (4) to three (3). The project is needed to improve safety and system efficiency at the existing port of entry. Comments on this Final Environmental Impact Statement are due by August 23, 1999 and should be sent to Rosanne Nieto at the address listed above. Mrs. Nieto may also be contracted for additional information concerning the document.
