Document Description
The project is a landside catchment basin in an area below a landslide/debris flow which was formerly Upper Canyon Road, Rio Nido. The purpose of the project is to prevent the debris from future landslides from reaching homes in the middle and lower reaches of Canyon, Three, or impounding stormwater and causing subsequent flash flooding. There will be excavation of slide debris to create a catchment basin, installation of a berm to contain landslide debris, construction of a deflection dike, and installation of an underground 600 foot long stormdrain parallel to an existing drain pipe in the area where a seasonal creek flowed before the landslide. Two parallel 24-inch diameter plastic flex pipes which were placed in the canyon after the February 1998 landslide will be removed, and the creek left to return to its natural state above the 48 inch stormdrain.
